In the menu of Western Ukrainian cuisine, a place of honor belongs to mushroom dishes, especially white ones. They are cooked, fried, stewed, and are used to cook soups, sauces, etc. In the Hutsul region it was and still is quite common to cook mushrooms in sour cream sauce.

  • White mushrooms - 500 g,
  • Onions - 150 g,
  • Hard cheese - 150 g,
  • Butter - 50 g,
  • Cream (10-15% fat) - 250 g,
  • Flour - 30g,
  • Salt, pepper.

The cooking process

  1. Wash, peel and boil the mushrooms for 15 minutes. Then drain the water, allow the mushrooms to cool and cut them into small pieces.
  2. Cut the onion into small cubes. Fry it in butter until golden. In a frying pan, add mushrooms, salt and pepper to the onion and fry all together for another 5 minutes.
  3. Sauce preparation. Melt 30 g of butter in a frying pan. Then add flour and fry a little. Next, pour in the cream and keep the sauce on the fire, stirring, until it starts to boil.
  4. Pour the sauce over the mushrooms and arrange in clay or ceramic pots. Grate the cheese on a grater and sprinkle it on top of mushrooms in jugs.
  5. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
